I have had Packet 8 since SunRocket ceased operation last year. I wish I had never heard of Packet 8. Their initial enticement was a fee similar to SunRocket, a flat fee for one year. What a joke that was. My phone bill has tripled with all the hidden fees that they bill me for each month.
The service just plain SUCKS. Calls are dropped especially if you talk for extended periods of time. Approximately 35% of the time I have the privilege of listening to myself (echo). Received voice quality sucks 80% of the time; it’s so garbled it’s impossible to understand the other party. Many times outbound calls don’t go through the first time so redialing is necessary. Their Web site stinks (must have been created as a kindergarten project).
Their customer service reps must either be either illegal aliens or do not live in the US (hopefully). It is next to impossible to speak to anyone that can understand even the most rudimentary English; of course the folks they have soliciting your business and signing you up speak it quite well.
I recently received an email informing me that they are going to add another Texas tax to my account that amounts to an additional 9% per month. I have news for them; I’m switching providers this week. I’m also going to contact the Texas Secretary of State to let him know that Packet 8 is charging this tax and other fees. My guess is that all the fees they are charging only go into Packet 8’s bank account.
Too bad SunRocket didn’t make it; they were excellent in all respects. I should have gone back to Verizon instead of signing on with this bunch. I may have to pay a little more but at least I can understand what is being said by who ever is on the other end. Stay away from this bunch; if you join them hang on to your wallet.

Horrible Experience
Pro's: There was nothing good about my experience with packet8
Con's: Everything about this company is lousy

Packet 8 was a horrible experience. I purchased two of their systems from Office Depot this weekend. When I went to activate the systems via the instructions in the box, I received an error that their technical support trace back to being units they don't have in their system. Yes, they sold me not 1 but *2* units that were "not in their system". Then they told me that I could always return the items to Office Depot and purchase the units directly from them. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

poor voice quality
Pro's: price, features, ease of use
Con's: call quality
Reviewed by: Anonymous
Contrary to most of the user comments, our experience with tech support was extraordinary. We did have MAJOR voice problems and they tried like the dickens to fix it. It REALLY was the connection, not them. I did a trace route on the connection and Level3 in San Jose is the problem...probably for most users that is where the problem is since that is the last hop before it goes to their server. Features and price was great, the real problem

I have had Packet8 now since Sunrocket went out of business; I joined w/ the 1 yr plan BIG MISTAKE! The service has been consistently poor, lately I'm plagued w/ people not being able to hear me but I can hear them. After spending over an hr (don't know why I ever call them, very useless) they tell me I need to use a corded phone, that this is the problem. When my yr is up, I'm gone!!!

I can't recommend Packet8
Pro's: When it works, there is no problem with customer service. QOS seem relatively consistent
Con's: Once something goes wrong, customer service is a chore. Chat tech support doesn't seem to understand their product.

I had a very bad experience with Packet8. I have not been very pleased with their ability to communicate the terms of the offer nor properly communicate the actually costs of the service I required.
I have included a lengthy detail of my experience on my blog at http://www.masterthebusiness.com/2008/03/18/why-i-no-longer-recommend-pa...

BE AWARE, ZINGOTEL is the KING OF the CUSTOMER FRAUD
Pro's: nothing
Con's: False Claims, Fraud, Disrespect to custumers.

This business plan of this compagny is fraud and false information. The compagny seems to operate from India. Don't give them you credit card information, the will charge even in free trial period.
I signed up for the basic plan at 9.95$ with free US & Canada local call as mentioned in their webpage. The setup service was really bad. The technicians are india and incompetents and you can waste a lot of time without resolution.
However, they did not waste time to charge my credit card. They changed my plan to the 19.95$ plan and charged a shipping services charges of 9.95 even if they shipped nothing to me. Above that they you get charged when you call their customer support free number because I did not purchased their free 800 calls plan. Soon enough they started charging even local calls. When I I tell you . Zingotel is in Scam and fraud bussiness.

Pro's: No particular pros
Con's: No particular cons either except the monthly extra change

I transfered my service from SunRocket to Packet8. First of all, it took them months to transfer the number. Most importantly, I am charged $4.xx/month for something I do not understand. I will switch to another provider when the term is up.

We've been using Pakcet8 at ramwebsolutions.com for over 1 year and we love it. It enabled us to move from an office space to working from home. The service is clear and just as reliable as "regular" phone service

Great service in every way, but Comcast is offering Voip for lower price in my area. I'm willing to pay a little more for Packet8 right now since it works so well.
