Small office - Hosted or Owned PBX

Small office - Hosted or Owned PBX
We are a small office (2 employees and another employee in a 2nd location). We will likely add employees in other locations over the next 6 months. I have looked at Packet 8 and Velocity for the hosted solutions. Also looked at Fonality with their $995 PBX. We have no choice but to use Time Warner for the broadband. However, we do have the option of cranking up the bandwidth as necessary. Which of the two solutions (hosted or owned PBX) will consistently deliver a superior Quality of Service? And, what factors should we consider that can help improve the service? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Small office - Hosted or Owned PBX

Hello, have you read the articles and faqs on this website? Those should help you out a lot. Also, I think that someone else had the same question as you in this forum too...not sure though. But check out the articles, there is one that discusses on-site vs. hosted/virtual PBX. Hope that helps. Anyone out there who has experienced both solutions have any input?

Re: Small office - Hosted or Owned PBX

For a small office such as yours, a hosted solution is the best route. This solution will offer a very small start up cost with the best bang for your buck. Your cable connection should be sufficient with the 2 users and I would recommend purchasing one of their Business Connection plans. While a Hosted solution and an in house solution will both offer high QOS, the in house solution reguires you to know how to maintain the device, hence my recommendation of the Hosted Solution; Let the pro's handle the phone system. In terms of improving the service, you could run a QOS application on your router to prioritze the data going out of your office and crank your bandwidth up as high as you can afford. The key factor in VOIP is the bandwidth, the more the better. Good Luck in your search!
