Re: Problem sending and receiving Faxes

I'm assuming you already asked ViaTalk? I know fax isn't excellent over most voip services at the moment. Do you use it for business? I have heard that business voip providers (like worksmart and vocalocity, etc) provide quality faxing.

Re: Problem sending and receiving Faxes

Faxing over VoIP is problematic but you can use any VoIP provider that uses the t.38 protocol. Packet8 is one that employs this protocol for sending faxes. Many are moving to this but it will be months or years before they have made the switch.

Re: Problem sending and receiving Faxes

Hi edyf...did you ever get your faxing problem sorted out?

Re: Problem sending and receiving Faxes

I will never rely on voip when it comes to fax. Unlike voice when a couple of hiccups wont affect you much, fax is different...a couple of hiccups means fax wont go thru.

Hi again edyf...just thought of something. What download/upload speeds does your connection have?

Re: Problem sending and receiving Faxes

When using any VoIP provider it is recommended that you make 3 changes on your fax machine to insure more consistency in the faxing ability. Set resolution to standard, change baud to 9600, and turn off ECM.

Hi VoipFrustration...do you use a voip provider at the moment? And if so, who are they and what do you think of them so far? Bye for now.

Re: Problem sending and receiving Faxes

Jeff, right now I am with the big "V". I think they offer a good service and they are getting better with their support department. To be honest, I don't really think there is too much difference between providers until you look at cost, features, server failures (outages) and customer service. Most of the other problems such as one way audio, choppy audio, and no dialtone that most people complain about, more often than not fall on the shoulders of the ISP, not the VoIP provider.
